Hollander tells the Interep/Bear Stearns Radio Symposium that radio should’ve adopted electronic measurement “four or five years ago.” He admits the PPM isn’t perfect even now. And that “there should be a competitor to Arbitron.” But he says it’s time to unite behind the technology that’s closest to coming to market. And he says “Clear Channel should absolutely” commit to PPM.
As for the question of accreditation by the Media Rating Council — Hollander says “I picked up the phone and called [executive director] George Ivie last week” to impress upon him the urgency of getting a decision. The CBS boss believes “accreditation will happen, hopefully in September.” A definite topic of chatter outside the auditorium at Bear Stearns was the decision by the Clear Channel-led Request For Proposals group to disinvite participation by those radio groups who’ve lined up behind PPM. Lots of hot-button issues from inside and outside the auditorium at Bear Stearns World Headquarters.
