Arbitron has begun installing its Portable People Meter (PPM) electronic ratings system in the country's sixth largest market, Philadelphia. The radio ratings company is recruiting a panel of 2,040 consumers, ages 6 and older, to carry the cell-phone sized PPM device, which automatically detects inaudible station identification codes. The first release of radio ratings will take place after the completion of an audit report by the Media Rating Council (MRC) and a review of the audit report findings with the MRC radio committee. This audit process in Philadelphia is already under way.
Philadelphia was originally scheduled to be the second market in the company’s PPM rollout, but it could be the first to go live with the ratings service if the Houston PPM does not receive Media Rating Council accreditation by November. [ MORE at FMQB ]
